    What is myBackup?
myBackup is an application that automatically backs up the files and folders on your computer.  myBackup also allows you to retrieve any file or folder that has been backed up in the event that the file or folder has been deleted or modified on your workstation.  It will also be valuable in a hard drive failure scenario.

Is myBackup different from Connected Backup?
myBackup is Bentley’s new enterprise backup solution and has no dependencies on the old Connected Backup environment. The myBackup agent that resides on the workstation is improved and offers better performance and reliability.

Will I be able to use Connected Backup once myBackup is installed?
No, the installation of myBackup removes the Connected Backup application.

    How will myBackup be installed?
myBackup will be installed automatically on your computer.  If you receive a new computer or have your computer reimaged, myBackup will also be automatically installed for you.

Will a backup occur automatically on my computer?
By default, a daily backup will occur automatically on your computer.  It will occur at a random time every Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

    What is a backup set?
A backup set represents all the files and folders that will be backed up on your computer.  These files and folders are marked with green checkmarks in the Backup Set tab from within the myBackup application.  After the initial backup, only those files and folders that have not been backed up or have changed since the last backup will be backed up.

Can I use myBackup while solely connected via the Bentley's wireless network?
No.  The computer must be connected to the wired admin network in order to run a successful backup.  You will receive a “Backup Error” message if your computer tries to perform a backup while connected to Bentley's wireless network.

What happens if a backup is initiated by my computer while I am at home and not connected to the Bentley network?
You will receive a “Backup Error” message if your computer tries to perform a backup while not connected to the Bentley network. The backup schedule will determine when the next backup will take place on the workstation.

No.  You must be on an ADMIN PORT to retrieve files from your backup set.

What happens if I shutdown my laptop while a backup is in progress?

Is there a maximum backup size limit?
The maximum amount of data you may backup is 30 GB.

Will I know when I am nearing the maximum backup size limit?
Yes.  A warning will be displayed when your backup set reaches 90% of the 30 GB limit.  Using the Backup Set tab from within the myBackup application, you may choose some files and/or folders to exclude from your backup set to ensure the amount of data in your backup set remains below the 30 GB limit.

Will I know if I exceed the maximum backup size limit?
Yes.  A warning will be displayed when your backup set exceeds the maximum size limit of 30 GB.  Using the Backup Set tab from within the myBackup application, you will then need to select some files and/or folders to exclude from your backup set to ensure the amount of data in your backup set remains below the 30 GB limit.
